BOARD OF DIRECTORS: DIRECTOR
Shannon Reed
Biloxi, Mississippi
Shannon is a Certified Nurse Midwife, with a Doctor of Nursing Practice and experience in identifying, treating, and caring for women with depression, anxiety, or postpartum mood disorders. Her daughter Amera has ACER3- related Leukodystrophy.
Shannon hopes to utilize her medical and research experience, as well as the empathy gained as a rare disease parent, to help others along their journey, before, during, and after receiving a diagnosis. She wants to help connect families to new and upcoming research opportunities and promote the ULF and its mission. She joined the Board in 2022.
“Receiving a diagnosis of Leukodystrophy can be a terrifying experience for families and attempting to navigate through disease information and research is an overwhelming feat,” says Shannon. “I appreciate and aim to support the ULF’s vision of supporting families as they make that journey.”
In addition to her support of ULF, she has volunteered for Rare Connect, United MSD Foundation, the March of Dimes, and Mississippi Maternal & Infant Mortality Review Committee.
